Domestic Abuse
Domestic abuse continues to affect millions of women and children worldwide. In Brazil, an estimated 21 million women experienced violence in the past year, while in the UK a woman is killed by a man every three days, most often by someone she knows.
At The Caring Family Foundation, we believe every woman and girl deserves a life free from fear. Our mission is to dismantle this cycle of violence through a holistic, human-centered approach that restores dignity, safety and hope. By integrating a 360 degrees approach, we are not just providing an intervention, we are ensuring survivors have the strength and resources to transform their lives forever.
Prevention
We stop abuse before it begins by educating children and young adults on healthy relationships and gender equality. By fostering a culture of respect early on, we tackle the drivers of violence at their root.
Our grant to Everyone’s Invited, a charity tackling rape culture through education and awareness, supports preventative programmes in schools using a whole-school approach. We are funding a year-long intervention in Tower Hamlets, reaching 1,000 students and over 600 staff and parents, and building a shared understanding of how to challenge harmful behaviours. The programme addresses issues such as online misogyny, digital literacy, and peer-on-peer abuse, equipping school communities with the tools to recognise and respond to these risks.
Through our support of Tender, a charity using drama and the arts to promote healthy relationships, we fund programmes in primary and secondary schools across East London, including Tower Hamlets, Newham, and Barking & Dagenham. These sessions use role-play and creative exercises to help young people understand healthy relationships and recognise abuse. The programme will reach 600 children, supporting the development of attitudes and behaviours rooted in respect and equality.
In Brazil, we partner with Promundo to challenge harmful social norms and prevent gender-based violence. Together, we support programmes that tackle the root causes of inequality. This includes training professionals across social services, education, and healthcare, alongside community-based initiatives through Program M, which reaches over 1,500 people each month. These programmes strengthen protective factors and reduce the risk of violence over time.
Crisis
When women are at their most vulnerable, we provide a sanctuary. From emergency refuge and 24/7 helplines to specialist legal and medical care, we ensure no survivor has to walk the path to safety alone.
Since 2023, The Caring Family Foundation has supported Refuge’s National Domestic Abuse Helpline, a vital service providing confidential, specialist support to women experiencing abuse. Support is available via phone, LiveChat, and British Sign Language, offering guidance on safety planning, housing, and access to further services. Without it, many women risk being left without access to vital support at the moment they need it most.
We support The Angelou Centre with emergency refuge beds for women and children, and we have recently launched safe move-on housing for mothers and children. Through our holistic approach, combining housing, legal, mental care, and specialist children’s support – we are helping women and their children move from crisis to safety and a stronger future. We have also launched an Economic Empowerment Pilot – a co-designed community kitchen offering a 12-session culinary certification and a direct pathway to employment. By equipping women with skills and confidence, we’re helping them to build secure, independent futures.
Transformation
True freedom requires independence. We support long-term recovery through psychological healing and professional skill-building, empowering survivors to achieve financial security and lead lasting change in their own lives.
Through our funding, we support Luminary Women in London, a women-led charity using baking and hospitality training to support women who have experienced domestic abuse, homelessness, and other disadvantages. The programme combines practical skills development with wider support, including financial literacy, confidence-building, and access to qualifications and work experience – all within a safe, community environment. Alongside technical training, women receive mental health support and ongoing guidance, helping them build confidence, stability, and pathways towards long-term employment and financial independence.
