with rapid deforestation making it more vulnerable to weather extremes.
ANNABEL’S FOR THE AMAZON
Marking its fifth year in 2024, The Caring Family Foundation (TCFF) stands as one of the UK’s largest donors to Brazilian reforestation, having planted over two million trees in Brazil. Additionally, it has distributed upwards of two million meals and delivered more than 20,000 domestic abuse services in the UK and Brazil.
Our month-long September Annabel’s for the Amazon campaign raises crucial funds to support reforestation efforts in Brazil, working alongside indigenous communities and supporting TCFF’s broader work with women and children across the UK and Brazil.
ANNABEL’S FOR THE AMAZON FAÇADE
This year’s façade features a striking Indigenous headdress. This headdress, traditionally worn by community leaders, symbolises the strength and resilience of those fighting to protect the Amazon and its rich biodiversity. The single burning feather in the display is a reminder of how fragile the ecosystem is, and how quickly it can be destroyed by deforestation, illegal mining, and environmental degradation. Crafted from sustainably sourced and recycled materials from previous facades, this visual statement highlights the struggles faced by these guardians, battling against hunger, exploitation, and environmental destruction whilst mirroring the delicate balance of the forest itself. This powerful display calls for urgent action and unwavering support to preserve the Amazon and protect the people who safeguard its future.
THE WORK WE'VE DONE SO FAR
The Foundation’s continued work with SOS Amazônia will help generate sustainable food and income, giving thousands of people throughout the Amazon a chance for a brighter future. By focusing on implementing supply chains that encourage the use of the community’s products, the project has already seen an increase in income generation for families.
With your support of our ‘Annabel's for the Amazon’ campaign, we have already positively impacted thousands of lives, in partnership with SOS Amazonia, by:
Planting 2 million trees and seedlings.
Working alongside over 400 traditional and indigenous families to generate sustainable food and income, through our tree planting initiatives.
Increasing individual family incomes by up to 100% in the first year alone.
Absorbing millions of pounds of carbon from the atmosphere contributing to the fight against climate change.
However, there is still so much to be done. The Amazon is being destroyed at an alarming rate, from forest fires, tree cutting, farming, mining and oil extraction. Roughly five football pitches of the Amazon are cut down every minute. One indigenous rights defender is killed every two days in the state of Amazonia.
TCFF is working with over 400 Brazilian families to plant trees, ensuring food security and income whilst restoring the Amazon. The Amazon rainforest, often referred to as the lungs of the Earth, faces severe threats from deforestation, illegal logging and mining, which endanger its rich biodiversity and the livelihoods of its Indigenous peoples. Through its philanthropic mission, the foundation addresses these challenges by providing dietary staples and supporting sustainable agriculture projects within the local community.
The Amazon’s Indigenous communities face severe challenges, from disease to widespread malnutrition, which jeopardise their survival. Limited access to medical care worsens these issues, with many children suffering from poor nutrition. These problems are tied to environmental damage, as the health of the land directly impacts the well-being of its people. TCFF addresses these challenges by supporting women, children, and families—the true guardians of the forest who play a crucial role in protecting the Amazon. Our goal is to preserve the environment by improving the health and stability of these communities.

WHAT’S NEXT: A VISION OF RESTORATION
TCFF's method goes beyond environmental preservation by taking a holistic approach rooted in the One Health concept. This is an integrated unifying approach that aims to sustainably balance and optimise the health of people, animals and environments. It recognises the interdependence of all life forms and focuses on nurturing the land and its communities to promote the return of wildlife and the rebirth of vibrant ecosystems. The ultimate goal is to create a symbiotic coexistence between nature and humanity.
TRANSFORMING LIVES WITH FOREST DOCTORS
One of the most impactful upcoming initiatives involves the Foundation’s work with Associação Médicos da Floresta, or the Doctors of the Amazon Rainforest Association. These ‘forest doctors’ travel deep into the forest to provide essential healthcare to hard-to-reach indigenous communities. It’s more than just healthcare: it’s a lifeline that allows the wisdom and knowledge of the elders to be passed down to younger generations, ensuring the continuity of medicinal ancestry.

Annabel’s for the Amazon was established to raise awareness, and funds, for the crisis happening in the Amazon. Through all of our work with The Caring Family Foundation, I know first-hand that there is still so much to be done. By working on the ground with communities in Acre to choose the species of trees we plant, we help to support their livelihoods through the produce grown, giving them the ability to generate income for their families. It means indigenous people and local communities can thrive and protect their land for their culture and ensure that traditions live on. We cannot forget that a healthier rainforest regulates our global climate and preserves biodiversity beyond Brazil. What happens in the Amazon has an impact on our world, and everyone in the UK and globally needs to recognise that all year round, not just September.
